Louisiana iris

This Louisiana iris is a gift from my blogger friend (you know who you areJ). It gives me a nice bloom only after 3 months. I do not know the name of this variety, any information is greatly appreciated. To my blogger friend, don’t be jealous because you get the flower only a few years after you plant it.

Acidanthera

This plant also known as Abyssinian gladiolus, Acidanthera bicolour and peacock orchid. Its scientific name is Gladiolus murielae . This interesting species is not an orchid but is a species of flowering plant in the family Iridaceae, native to eastern Africa. These plants require a longer growing season than common hybrid gladiolus .The flowers are similar to the familiar gladiolus, but are more delicate and relaxed than the showy hybrids. The 2-3” star-shaped, white flowers, with 6 equal tepals have a deep purple blotch in the center, each stem produces several flowers that open one at a time starting from the bottom of the spike, over a period of three to four weeks. The individual flowers last a few days and make long-lasting cut flowers. From my reading they are fragrant with a light scent reminiscent of gardenia or jasmine that is stronger at night. Sadly i never smell its fragrant even when i put my nose a mere centimetre from the flower!  The corms were kept in the fridge since March; thank God it is still ok

Anthurium

Anthurium is one of my choice plants grown for cut flower.  It will grow happily under shade and thrives on neglect. I water it occasionally during dry season.

Mutant

Calla lily is not a true lily but a species of flowering plant in the family Araceae. This is also my favourite cut flower. In a rush to bloom, this calla tuber forgets to send out leaves first. It sent forth strange flower from the central (an only) stalk.  Can you spot the difference?

Roses doppelganger

white green lisianthus

I couldn’t help myself when i saw these lisianthus, i must have it. So i end up with 2 pots. It brings back fond memory of spring in Europe. I love to go to street market to admire various types of cut flowers and to buy lisianthus and calla lily. I know it is not fragrant but i still love it.

The flower bud and flower look like roses minus the thorn and fragrance. I sow lisiantus a few months back, the germination rate is about 75% but its growth is very slow. When i went outstation, my mum forgets to water it.  That is the short history of my sojourn to grow lisianthus.

Red gladiolus nanus

This is gladiolus nanus, i bought a bag of gladiolus nanus mixed bulb in March but do not have enough space to plant it until recently. Now i can enjoy its beautiful flower. Gladiolus nanus is smaller than regular gladiolus in term of the plant height and flower size.

Aptly named

Finally I recalled the name of this flower; Rubyglow. The flower is small nevertheless its bright double ruby flower is really attractive and looks cheerful. I plan to turn this rubyglow into a bonsai, its needle like leaf and small flower will change colour from ruby to pink and finally white.
